Theme-the central message
The theme of the book was courage.
Tone-the authors attitude
The tone of the story is direct.
Mood-how the reader feels
The mood  of the book was mellow.
Diction-the words an author chooses to tell a story
 The writer’s diction is characterized by short simple sentences that are easily understood.
Syntax-the way an author chooses to a story
 Because I do not like the way my sentences read, I am going to ask my teacher to tutor me on syntax.
Stupid-lack of intelligence or common sense
She is not stupid.
Adumbrate-to foreshadow
There are so many different kinds of fans out there that you can't adumbrate which kinds will come in the near future.
Apotheosis-the ideal example
His appearance as Hamlet was the apotheosis of his career.
Ascetic-characterized by or suggesting the practice of severe self-discipline and abstention from all forms of indulgence
An ascetic life of prayer, fasting, and manual labor
Bauble- a showy, usually cheap, ornament
An example of a bauble is the colored bell that dangles from a jester's hat
Beguile-to influence by trickery
They frequently beguile their toil with carols.
Burgeon-to grow or develop quickly
The town burgeoned into a city.
Complement-something that completes or makes perfect
My brother and his girlfriend complement each other perfectly.
Contumacious-stubbornly perverse or rebellious\
A defendant is very contumacious.
Curmudgeon-a bad tempered, difficult person
My grandpa is curmudgeon.
Didactic-intended for instruction
James was a very didactic person; he really loved teaching.
