My first impression on Prufrock

I thought that it was pretty interesting. I also that that it was pretty unique in its own way.

TGG Notes

Fitzgerald made a 'mistake' three times -- not really a mistake
He would have / He'd of    ---   He wrote it the way
correct           /  Fitzgerald --        the way it sounded

Nick is the voice of reason
He is more human than the rest - we have known more of his background since the beginning of the book than the rest of the characters
Nick gives us context ⟶ Compare and contrast

we are all like Gatsby ⬇
He is chasing something like the us (goals)

Green light = symbol
ash heaps = symbol
eyes of TJ Eckelburg= symbol

Gatsby is great because he is not selfish

Ashen- of the pale gray color of ash
Denouement- the final part of a play, movie, or narrative in which the strands of the plot are drawn together and matters are explained or resolved

My Thoughts on ADWI

I didn't participate in the protest a day without immigrants because I thought it would just prove all the wrong reason why we should stay in America. For example if immigrants didn't go to school for one day it just proves how much less schools would be crowded with out them and how much easier it would be for the teachers to teach and deal with a smaller group of students. Some may argue that the schools lost a lot of money because we didn't show up that day but that also goes to show that they wouldn't need to give the schools all that money in the first place if all immigrants were gone. All in all I didn't participate in the protest because I think it would've been better if we went to school and proved all the right reason why we should stay in America and that we think our education is important to us and that's why our parents/family immigrate here to give us all a better education and future.

T.G.G. Notes #2

"Her voice is full of money"

Myrtles death is the biggest conflict in chapter 7

The death crates tension
Death is a universal theme-
it gets to every reader in the world
Dawn a can be a source of pressure
Forlorn- pitifully sad and abandoned or lonely

The Great Gatsby Notes

Epigraph- a quote in the beginning of a book that foreshadows the theme
" whenever you feel like criticizing anyone.... just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages you've had."
Displacement- out of place
Anachronism- out of time
"She was incurably honest"
"I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known"

T.G.G. Chapter 4 short summary
